The area immediately in front of the green is known as the golf green. The grass has a cutting height of between 6 and 10 mm and is therefore slightly longer than the grass on the green. At the same time, however, it is significantly shorter than the grass on the fairways. If a player's ball lies on the golf green, the player can decide whether the flag should remain in the hole, whether the flag should be removed or whether the flag should be served. In contrast to a putt from the green, a player does not receive any penalty strokes for hitting the flag or any other ball lying on the green. Not even if the player plays from the golf green in the permitted manner with the putter.
