Most golf clubs have one or more golf instructors. A golf instructor is also called a pro and is available to give golf lessons to members and guests. Golf instructors are usually self-employed and usually work on their own responsibility. However, more and more golf schools are now also taking over the teaching operations on a golf course and supervise a team of usually several golf instructors with different qualification levels and areas of responsibility. Anyone with a handicap of -6 or better can start training to become a golf instructor. The training is organized and supervised by the professional association in Germany, the PGA of Germany. The majority of the training takes place on a golf course and is supervised by a golf instructor, who in turn is qualified as an instructor. Seminars and examinations at which all apprentices from all over Germany come together about three times a year, as well as various tournaments at which scores have to be achieved, round off the training to become a qualified golf instructor.
