Caps in the clubhouse - Golf etiquette

muetzen-clubhaus

Is it golf etiquette to remove your cap when you enter the clubhouse?
The fact that a head covering should be removed in a closed room, in a restaurant, at a government office, in church, at home, in the office or in hospital is not just an invention of the golfing community. This process is not only part of proper behavior in golf, but has always been part of good manners in everyday life.

In the past, men used to raise their hats in greeting or at least briefly tap the brim of their hats. It was also a matter of course to take off your headgear when entering a room. The head covering was also removed at a funeral during the common "Our Father" and in front of the grave. It used to be like this and it still is today. Only the Pope is allowed to keep his cap on. A natural authority, mutual respect and consideration were the order of the day in the past and these virtues should still characterize proper golfing behaviour today, so that the golf caps should be removed in the clubhouse, during the greeting and at the "final thanks" at the 18th hole.
