You should always clean your shoes when entering a building. This also applies to entering the clubhouse, the restaurant or the pro store. Manual or electric shoe cleaning machines are often available at the entrance to the clubhouse or in the caddy rooms. Due to the soft spikes on the golf shoes, dirt and grass get particularly caught on the soles. It is therefore essential to clean them thoroughly with brushes or air pressure.
In the past, you were often not allowed to enter the clubhouse with dirty golf shoes. However, this was not due to the possible soiling, but to the frequent damage to floors and furnishings caused by the metal spikes that used to be common on the soles of golf shoes. Today, there are hardly any metal spikes left, as they are banned on almost all golf courses.
