The Scottish Open was first held in 1986 as a Ladies European Tour event. From 1989 to 1993, from 1996 to 2006 and in 2009, the tournament did not take place due to a lack of sponsors. This meant that other tournaments on the Ladies European Tour took center stage. However, the Ladies Scottish Open is on its way to re-establishing itself in the tournament calendar of the Ladies European Tour.
