The first two Ladies Irish Open were played in 1983 and 1984. The event was then discontinued from 1984 to 1994. In cooperation with the LPGA Tour, the Ladies Irish Open returned to the European golf tour schedule in 1995. In St. Margaret in 1995, Laura Davies set a new world record with 25 strokes under par.
