According to the official rules of golf, the penalty in the golf scoring game for a breach of a golf rule is the addition of 2 penalty strokes. If you are not always sure whether the basic penalty in golf is 1 or 2 penalty strokes, remember the following rule of thumb. In the case of a golf rule violation, you generally receive 2 penalty strokes and in the case of a game violation, you generally only receive 1 penalty stroke.
