The Golf Torque

Geschrieben von: Christoph Knapp | |

The degree of torsional resistance of a golf shaft around its own longitudinal axis at impact is referred to as golf torque. Both the golf torque and the material and flexibility of a shaft are decisive factors in making the right personal shaft choice. Nowadays, amateur golfers mostly prefer so-called graphite shafts. These are much easier and more comfortable to play than the steel shafts preferred by most top players, for example. In addition, graphite shafts are easier on the muscles and joints, especially with less well hit balls. Steel shafts should only be played by players with a very high club head speed who also hit the ball regularly and solidly near the sweet spot. However, even top players can hardly or not at all feel the golf torque, especially as this twisting of the shaft is sometimes devastatingly small.
