The term golf rookie comes from the American term for a very successful newcomer on a professional tour. This player unexpectedly causes a sensation with good results, victories and top placings. At the end of a season on the American professional tour, the US PGA Tour, the best rookie is always awarded the title "Rookie of the Year". This is probably the highest honor in golf that a rookie can achieve. On the world's other major tours, such as the European PGA Tour or the Asian Tour, the best rookies are also honored at the end of the season. The same applies, of course, to the world's major women's tours, where the term golf rookie is gender-neutral.
