Provisional golf ball

Geschrieben von: Christoph Knapp | |

If a golfer suspects that a ball he has hit cannot be found or has landed out of bounds, he can play a substitute ball. This is known as a provisional ball and must be clearly announced as such. A provisional golf ball can be played after the announcement until the place is reached where the original ball is assumed to be. If this original ball is found within 5 minutes, the strokes with the provisional ball do not count. Otherwise, the provisional golf ball counts and the corresponding penalty strokes must be noted on the scorecard in accordance with the Rules of Golf. A provisional ball is primarily intended to improve the flow of play and avoid the risk of injury from subsequent groups of players if a player runs back.
