A golf pro-am is a competition in golf in which professionals and amateurs take part together. This is somewhat unusual, as in golf the amateur game is strictly separated from the professional game. In a golf pro-am, a pro and an amateur or a pro and three amateurs usually form a team. The tournament can last one or more days. There are usually three classifications, a pro individual classification, an amateur individual classification and a team classification. In the run-up to all major tournaments on the professional tours worldwide, there is always a golf pro-am on the event calendar. The leading professionals in the rankings are obliged to take part and walk the course with sponsors and celebrities.
