A party is one or more players who form a team in a competition. A distinction is made between the following types of competition between parties. In two-a-side, one player plays against another. In three-a-side, one player plays against two others and in four-a-side, two play against two. In a three-ball match, three players play against each other in a game of putt-putt. In practice, each player plays two independent hole games. In a four-ball, two players play their better golf ball against the better ball of two other players.
