In a golf tournament, there is always a so-called gross and a so-called net score. A golfer's handicap does not play a role in the gross score, it is the number of strokes that counts. The net score reflects the result after deducting the handicap from the gross score. For example, if a player with a handicap of 20 completes a par 72 golf course with 92 strokes, he has achieved a net golf score of 72. His gross score would have been 92. Expressed in net stableford points, this would be 36 net points and 16 gross points in our case. If a player had achieved 36 gross points, he would have played the golf course in par, i.e. achieved a handicap of zero.
