For many years, the DGV has endeavored to meet the requirements of golf nature conservation. For years, many conservationists were opposed to the construction of golf courses, as fertilizer had to be used to ensure perfect, even and long-lasting grass growth. Nowadays, golf course operators have to comply with many environmental regulations, which does not always make things easy for investors, golfers and greenkeepers. Large compensation areas must be available during construction, although it is now known that a golf course only requires 5 to 10% of the amount of fertilizer used on agricultural land. Most golf courses have been built on former agricultural fields and have thus also contributed to the fact that more and more conservationists are now taking a more positive view of golf course construction and the sport of golf.
