The so-called golf grain refers to the direction of growth of the grass on the golf green. This direction of growth changes slightly during the course of the day, as the grass adapts its orientation to the position of the sun. The golf grain also depends on the type of grass, the cut and the cutting tool. In addition to the so-called break, i.e. the slope of the green, the golf grain is of decisive importance for the golfer in which direction he has to play a putt. A ball that is putted in the direction of the grass picks up more speed and slope than a ball that is played against the golf grain. In the amateur sector this is usually neglected and many golfers are unaware of the strong influence of the position of the blades of grass. Professional players, on the other hand, always take the golf grain into account before the shot when reading the putting line.
