In a hole betting game each player has the opportunity to give his opponent a putt. This gifted putt is referred to as a gimme. It is always up to the player whether and when to give his opponent a golf gimme putt. This must be weighed up carefully and tactically adapted to the situation. However, putts are usually only given when the golf ball is so close to the hole that it is almost impossible not to hole this putt. However, according to the official rules of golf, a golf gimme only exists in a hole competition. In a handicap counting competition or other tournaments, putts may not be gimmeted and the player must ensure that he holes his putt himself.
