There are different types of wedges for golf clubs, which generally have a clubface angle, also known as loft, of between 48° and 60°. A golf gap wedge closes the gap between pitching wedge and sand wedge with a loft of 51°-53°, depending on the manufacturer. This is normally 8°, as opposed to the 4° loft difference between all other irons. A golf gap wedge is therefore mainly used for approach shots that would fly too short with a sand wedge and too long with a pitching wedge. However, shots that would be too high with a sand wedge and would stop too quickly or would be too flat with a pitching wedge and would therefore roll out too far can also be played with a golf gap wedge.
