Addressing the golf ball

Geschrieben von: Christoph Knapp | |

Golfer's joke on the subject of "Addressing the golf ball"

If the golf instructor says to the pupil: "Say hello to the ball". The pupil says: "Hello ball" - this is an old and well-known joke among golfers. But so that you don't end up in such a situation, we would like to explain to you in this lexicon article what it means when your golf instructor asks you to address the ball: This is called the address stance when a player takes his position before the golf shot. The English say "to address the ball" when they address the ball. These are the seconds of truth in which it is decided what happens to the golf ball. Addressing the golf ball has nothing at all to do with acoustic utterances to the golf ball. The address of the golf ball and the associated assumption of the stroke position, or address position, is one of the most important prerequisites for the success of a golf stroke. The most important factors in the address stance are the alignment of the target, the body angle and the grip. Before adopting the address stance, the so-called preshot routine, i.e. golf shot preparation, is crucial for a successful golf shot. This golf shot preparation consists primarily of precise aiming and the muscular and mental preparation of a golfer. Particularly in the professional field, repetitive and consistent golf shot preparation and the resulting address are clearly recognizable. Every amateur golfer can learn a lot from this and improve their own golf game.

Learning the golf address stance

As already mentioned, it is important to learn, implement and execute the stance routinely. Therefore, take your time to learn a correct position. We advise you to either practise this completely with your golf instructor or at least have it checked from time to time. Consistently adopt this golf address position for every exercise and don't forget that there are of course differences in the types of shots. This stance is particularly important when putting. This is where you need the most concentration and precision. When putting, remember to read the green beforehand - this can also be included in your shot preparation.
