The golf amateur

Geschrieben von: Christoph Knapp | |

In no other sport is the separation between amateurs and professionals as strict as in golf. There is a so-called amateur statute in which the rules of play and conduct etc. for an amateur golfer are laid down. It defines the term "amateur golfer" as follows: "An amateur golfer is someone who plays golf as a sport free of remuneration or enrichment." This means that golf amateurs are not allowed to enrich themselves by winning prizes or earn money from them. Cash prizes are generally not permitted and non-cash prizes may not exceed a value of EUR 700 (2009) for a prize of any classification. Regardless of whether it is a special classification such as nearest to the pin or longest drive or the tournament victory itself. It also does not matter whether net or gross prizes are awarded, the limit is always 700 EUR value in kind and the distribution of the prize is usually determined by the sponsor of a competition.
