Replacing the golf ball
According to the rules of golf, is it allowed to change the golf ball during the game?
A golf ball may be replaced during the round. However, this may only be done after finishing a hole or before starting a new hole. Unless the ball is damaged. In this case, it may also be replaced during a golf hole. However, whenever a new ball is brought into play, the other players or the counter should be informed. Damaged balls should be confirmed as such by the counter in advance.
For professional golfers, balls may be replaced in the same way as for amateurs, in accordance with the Golf Rules of Conduct. However, a one ball rule usually applies here. This states that a ball of the same brand, model and compression is always played during a tournament round, i.e. the ball may only differ in its numbering or the markings applied by the player.
