Putting line
Why does proper golfing behavior prohibit stepping on the putting line on the green?
If you step on the putting line of another player, there is a risk of damaging the line and hindering the putt. Especially to the extent that the green deforms under the weight of the body, i.e. a so-called crater is created and this cannot recover and straighten out quickly enough before the player makes his putt.
Spike marks can also be created by stepping on the putting line, which the player is then no longer allowed to remove before the stroke. Spike marks and other damage may only be removed after the hole has been completed. Only pitch marks may be removed in advance. The putting line is the line between the ball and the hole, as well as the extended line beyond the hole. Therefore, always pay attention to where you step on the green.
