"Underplayed" - gross and net: golf etiquette

unterspielt

What is the difference between gross and net in golf?
A gross score in golf is always scored against the golf course, regardless of a golfer's handicap.
In the case of a net score, this is always scored against the player's own handicap.
All professional golf tournaments are normally held as gross competitions. This means that the player with the fewest strokes wins the tournament. In amateur golf, almost all golf tournaments are also net scored differently. The winner is not automatically the player with the fewest strokes overall, but the golfer who has underplayed his handicap by the most strokes. This means that a wide range of performance classes can compete against each other in a tournament. Of course, most amateur competitions also have a gross score for the best male and female player in the golf tournament.
