Golf training in the bunker - the perfect golf swing when hitting the bunker

The correct bunker shot

In our 2nd part of the bunker school on golf-shop.de, we now want to show you the final variation of the bunker shot in this golf video. To execute this correctly, you should already have a good level of skill, but you should always carefully consider whether the shot is necessary or whether the simple bunker shot from our Bunker School Part 1 is sufficient. When we talk about the perfect green bunker shot, we probably mean a bunker shot with an open golf club face. This is how the bunker shot has been described in most illustrations for many years. The important influencing factors for hitting the golf balls, for a successful golf shot in the bunker must be taken into account. Only in this way can golf training in the bunker and then the game on the course be successful.

The perfect bunker shot

The angle of entry, the swing path, the swing plane, the shaft plane and much more are the decisive impact factors. The factors influencing the design of a golf club and the so-called bounce of the wedge also have an effect on hitting a golf ball in the bunker. Of course, as shown in the first golf bunker video on golf-shop.de, a bunker shot can be executed with a neutral club face position without the golfer having to make any special changes to the club face position, stance or swing. However, if the golfer is faced with a situation in which the bunker edge in front of the player is so high that the golfer cannot overcome the bunker edge with a standard shot, the golf club face must be opened correctly. To do this, the golfer first assumes a neutral, right-angled stance. Then he or she turns the club face up by approx. 45° and then grips the club again at a neutral angle to their stance. This is now changed as follows: The stance, including the complete set-up, is also turned approx. 45° to the left (right-hander). The lower edge of the club face is now pointing back towards the target, but the golfer's foot, pelvis and shoulder line are clearly pointing past the target to the left (right-hander). The golf swing in the bunker is now executed along these body lines. In other words, on a swing path in relation to the target from the outside to the inside. A normal golf swing but along the golf swing plane and you will notice that the golf ball flies significantly higher and shorter. Golf exercises with bunker shots should take place in the following types of bunker:

  • Sand bunkers
  • grass bunker
  • Green bunker
  • Pot bunker
