The World Golf Championship is one of 4 tournaments in the WGC series for male professional golfers. The World Golf Championship has been held since 1999 and is not only part of the golf tour in the USA. All four World Golf Championships count towards the rankings of the two largest professional series, the US PGA TOUR and the PGA European Tour. Due to the high total prize money of 8.5 million US dollars and the great importance for the world golf rankings, all WGC tournaments are ranked just after the four major golf championships.
