A player may not take a shot after his golf ball as long as his ball is moving (playing a ball in motion).
Exceptions:
- ball falls off the tee - Rule 11-3.
- Ball hit more than once - Rule 14-4.
- Ball moves in the water - Rule 14-6.
If the ball only starts to move after the player has started the shot or the backswing of his club to the shot, he has not incurred a penalty for playing a ball in motion under this rule, but is not exempt from penalties incurred under the rules:
- Ball at rest moved by player - Rule 18-2a.
- Ball at rest moves after being addressed - Rule 18-2b.
(Ball deliberately deflected or stopped by player, partner or caddie - see Rule 1-2).
