Certain counting game rules are so different from the hole play rules that it is neither practicable nor permissible to combine the two forms of play. The result of a hole play match played under these circumstances is invalid and the competitors are disqualified for the counting game.
In the counting game, the referee's duties may be restricted by the game management."²
According to the official rules of golf, the overriding of rules is not permitted. Neither the golfer nor the match director is permitted to overrule the rules of golf or to change the announcement afterwards. The golf tournament announcement is always drawn up in advance of a tournament in cooperation with the sponsors, organizers and game management. It defines all the game procedures, starting times, game mode and much more.
