If a player puts a ball into play from the tee, the ball must be played from inside the tee, either from the surface of the ground or from a permitted tee in or on the surface of the ground (ball touchdown).
A bump in the ground (created by the player or not) and sand or other natural substance (placed by the player or not) is a surface of the ground for the purposes of this rule.
If a player hits a shot after a ball on an illegal tee or after a ball that has not been placed in the manner permitted by this rule, he is disqualified.
A player may stand outside the tee to play a ball from inside the tee.
