The term golf links originally comes from the coastal courses in Scotland. The typical location in the dunes by the sea is characteristic. A links course, also known as a links, is a golf course with little modeling, adapted to nature, which was laid out on low-quality ground with sand hills and long, thick grass. The land was considered of little use before a golf course was built and was mainly used for grazing livestock, mostly sheep. Nowadays, golf links are built in a wide variety of regions, often at great expense, to bring out the typical features and thus create the classic character of a golf links course. On the original golf links, the ninth hole is usually the furthest away from the clubhouse. This is why the first nine holes are also known as the out holes. On the second nine holes, you play in again. However, on modern golf links, the ninth and eighteenth holes are usually close to the clubhouse.
