This is any golf green other than the hole a golfer is currently playing. Practice and approach greens on the course are also counted as false greens. If a golf ball comes to rest on the wrong green after a golf shot, the ball must be dropped from the wrong green at the nearest point, not closer to the flag of the hole to be played, without a penalty stroke. This occurs within one club length outside the green. A golf false green must be protected like any other green. That is why there is a rule that a golf ball must not be hit off a false green. This would damage the green too much and cause irreparable damage.
