The gross score in golf is the exact number of strokes made for a single hole, as well as the addition of all golf strokes made during an 18-hole round of golf. In contrast to the net score, the gross golf score is always calculated without deducting the handicap. The gross score is therefore the score in which only the pure number of strokes is counted, regardless of the level of play. In professional golf, practically all golf tournaments are scored according to golf gross. The winner is therefore the player with the fewest strokes after a predetermined number of rounds of golf. In the amateur sector, there is of course also a gross winner in most golf tournaments, who can celebrate as the overall winner of the tournament. However, there are usually more net prizes than gross prizes in order to give golfers of all levels the opportunity to win a prize.
