Golf instruction in golf may only be given by a caddy or a playing partner and influences a player's decision on club selection, playing style, the execution of a shot or similar. Any kind of advice or suggestion to positively or negatively influence a player is referred to as golf instruction. Clarification of rules issues, assistance with special rules or information about generally known matters, such as the location of hazards or the position of the flag on the green, are not considered golf instruction. According to the official rules of golf, instructing a flight partner or accepting instruction will result in a corresponding penalty for the respective player.
