All golf balls are made of synthetic material these days. Golf balls are available in a wide range of variants and price categories. Golf balls marked with an X may not be played in a tournament, nor may driving range balls. The golf ball should have a diameter of no less than approx. 42.67 mm and weigh no more than 45.93 g. Golf balls differ mainly in their degree of compression and the number of shells used. The degree of compression is indicated on the packaging and ranges from 80 or 90 (soft) to 100 and 110 (very hard). Which golf ball is ultimately right for you depends above all on a golfer's playing ability. There are now also so-called golf ball fittings. Just like the golf club fitting, these are used to work out the right material for the golfer.
