Why does golf etiquette require you to give way to faster flights?
A fast pace of play is important on all golf courses around the world. A group of 4 people, a so-called 4-person flight should therefore not take longer than four and a half hours to play 18 holes. If you are forced to delay a round due to searching for a golf ball or if you are unable to keep to your speed, you must allow the following group to play through during the search in accordance with the rules of etiquette in golf.
You must also allow the next group to play through if you are unable to keep up with the group in front of you and the flight behind has to keep waiting. During the week, the following playing rights situations generally apply: 2-man flights before 3-man flights before 4-man flights. At weekends, the opposite applies: 4-man, before 3-man, before 2-man flights. In order to increase the speed of golf, you should stick to this composition and playing rights on the course wherever possible. A single player never has the right to play, but is usually allowed through by slower players.
