One of the most frequently used forms of betting in golf is the Nassau. This was invented around the turn of the century, presumably in 1901, at the Nassau Country Club on Long Island in the USA.
Basic rule of the Nassau golf bet
In a Nassau, an 18-hole round is divided into three partial bets. Bets are placed on the entire 18 holes, on the first nine holes and on the second nine holes. When the game form arrived in Great Britain, the stake for the 18-hole score was doubled, so that ultimately a total of four partial bets are played out.
