Using the divot correctly - Golf etiquette

divot-einsetzen

According to golfing etiquette, why do you have to reinstate a divot?
A golf divot is a piece of turf that is ideally knocked out of the ground with the golf club after hitting the ball. A divot is therefore damage to the golf course, the turf or the sward. If you put the divot back in after hitting it out, this piece of grass grows back quickly and the course recovers much faster than if you simply leave the hole on the fairway open.

On some golf courses , according to golf etiquette, sand is filled into the divot, which is usually carried on the buggy. However, this is usually only helpful on courses and is only used on courses where only buggies are permitted. Incidentally, divots that have been knocked out on the teeing area should not be reinserted, as this area can be repaired by the greenkeeper and there is also a risk of subsequent players slipping or sliding on a reinserted divot.
