The Womens Australian Open is part of golf tournaments in Europe, or the Ladies European Tour, but is played in Australia. The Australian Ladies Open was first played in 1974 as a 54-hole event, but was discontinued four years later. The tournament was reintroduced to the Ladies Tour calendar in 1994 as the Womens Australian Open, this time as a 72-hole event. Like many golf tournaments in Europe, Annika Sörenstam won that year, which was also her first Tour victory.
