A player may not take a practice shot while playing a hole. A player may not take a practice stroke between playing two holes unless he is practicing putting or chipping on or near
(a) the green of the last hole played,
(b) any practice green; or
(c) the tee of the next hole to be played in the round, provided that such a practice stroke is not made from an obstruction and play is not unduly delayed (Rule 6-7).
Shots to continue play on a hole whose outcome has already been decided are not practice shots.
Exception: If play has been suspended by the Committee, the player may practice before resuming play
(a) as provided in this rule,
(b) anywhere outside the course of play; and
(c) elsewhere as authorized by the Director.
PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE 7-2:
Hole play - Hole loss; Counting play - Two strokes.
If the offense is committed between the playing of two holes, the penalty applies to the next hole.
Note 1: A practice swing is not a practice shot and may be taken anywhere (during the round) provided the player does not violate any rule.
