Hole play
a) Information about the stroke count
An opponent is entitled to be informed of the player's stroke count when playing a hole and, after playing a hole , of the stroke count for the hole just completed.
b) False information in a hole competition
A player may not give false information to his opponent. If a player gives false information, he loses the hole. False information is deemed to have been given if a player
(I) fails to inform his opponent as soon as practicable that he has incurred a penalty, unless
(a) he is clearly acting in accordance with a rule that carries a penalty and this has been noticed by his opponent, or he corrects his mistake before his opponent makes his next stroke; or
(II) gives incorrect information about the number of strokes when playing a hole and does not correct this error before his opponent has played his next stroke; or
(III) gives incorrect information about the stroke count for a completed hole and this affects his opponent's view of the outcome of the hole, as long as he does not correct his error before any player takes a shot from the next tee or, if it is the last hole of the hole, before all players leave the green.
A player has also given incorrect information if, through ignorance, he does not take into account a penalty stroke that he has incurred. It is the player's responsibility to know the rules.
