Buy distance memberships in the USA and Europe
To play golf, you don't necessarily need to take out an expensive membership at a golf club near you, or even in Germany at all. Many golf clubs and golf facilities offer good, affordable distance memberships. With this type of membership, you can avoid expensive offers without missing out on the benefits of a recognised distance membership from the DGV (German Golf Association) or another national golf association abroad.
Big advantage: in addition to a club card and usually playing rights at the distance club, you also have your handicap administered. This means that through such a club you are fully entitled to play and can enter almost all golf tournaments.
Tip: fun at a really fair price: distance memberships are perfect for young golfers and beginners in particular. For many golfers, playing on their home course is not always the top priority. So if you are more of a green fee golfer, a distance membership will pay off in the long run.
Distance membership: tips for buying the right one
- Depending on the golf club's offer, a minimum distance from your place of residence may be a condition for taking out a distance membership. So find out the currently required distance between where you live and the golf club you are interested in.
- Check in advance whether you can meet the conditions of the membership on offer (required handicap or completed Platzreife, the German golf proficiency certificate, and the term of the contract). You should also check the costs and look out for hidden charges.
- In most cases, we recommend making sure that the distance membership on offer is an official DGV membership. Only then can you be sure that you can also play at other golf facilities without any problems. But foreign golf distance memberships are also generally recognised everywhere and offer almost unrestricted playing rights.
